All singers are involved and in turn involve the audience. Hildegard Behrens deserves special recognition as Brunhilde. Every single one of her utterances is full of directness and tonal beauty. Her performance together with Robert Hale as Wotan - vocally a bit of a lightweight, but dramaturgically excellent - is absolutely convincing. The entire complexity of the father-daughter relationship becomes apparent here. As for the rest of the cast: Julia Varady as Sieglinde is sensational, both in terms of the power and intensity of her voice. Matti Salminen sings a worthy bass, in more than just one role. Waltraud Meier has taken on several mezzo-soprano roles and transforms the respective characters into great, realistic character portrayals. The tenors René Kollo and Robert Schunk both seem a little weak, but at the time (as probably now) there wasn't much choice for the roles of Siegmund and Siegfried. The orchestra plays excellently and Wolfgang Sawallisch conducts this Ring cycle with great sensitivity. This recording may not be one of the most interesting ones in the ring (it would be more like Karajan or Krauss), but it is stirring, beautiful and extremely natural. --Robert Levine

Product Features

["healthDE_Nov2023
"option1":"Default Title","option2":null,"option3":null
["Default Title
["//newnestshop.com/cdn/shop/files/de-B000006P4T.jpg?v=1701214898
//newnestshop.com/cdn/shop/files/de-B000006P4T.jpg?v=1701214898
Title

Opera Gala - The Ring of the Nibelung (excerpts)

Product descriptions Opera Gala - The Ring of the Nibelung (excerpts) Description Amazon.de This ten-year-old live recording is reminiscent of a theater performance.
